WRITING HISTORY

The idea. In 1986, against the backdrop of the severe economic crisis in Steyr, the idea was born to strengthen Steyr’s position as an international business hub by establishing the Research and Training Centre for Work and Technology -  FAZAT (Forschungs- und Ausbildungszentrum fuer Arbeit und Technik). 

From idea to reality: After founding the FAZAT Association in 1989, Steyr’s old ‘K&K’ (imperial and royal) gun manufacturer situated in the city’s historical moat was restored to its former glory over the period of 1990-1998.

During the same period, the FAZAT Association crucially supported the development of the research company Profactor, helped to roll out polytechnic courses and played an important role in establishing RiS GmbH.

Growing business importance. Since 2001, the FAZAT Association has been directly involved in the development of the business and service parks Stadtgut Steyr and the Technology and Innovation Centre TIC Steyr. To date, over 47 companies have established themselves in Steyr, employing more than 1,200 people.

PARTNERING ALONG THE PATH TO SUCCESS

On 16 April 2015 the FAZAT Association Steyr celebrated its 25th anniversary. FAZAT owes its success to a strong collaboration between economy, federal government, province and the city of Steyr.
